New Squarepusher

After brutalising festival crowds from Glastonbury to Osaka, Tom Jenkinson unleashes a 3-track belter of a 12" Venus No. 17 Comparable with the likes of Red Hot Car, this is one of his most immediate and best dancefloor releases ever. The unforgettable title track previously appeared on the very limited 3" - Ultravisitor bonus Cd, while Tundra 4 was unveiled during the Sinfonietta tour back in April, a rework of the hair raising" classic Tundra from Feed Me Weird Things . Available on 12” vinyl in a classic Port Rhombus-style square die-cut purple sleeve, and a download from Bleep.

Two Lone Swordsmen

Two Lone Swordsmen’s new single Sex Beat was released this week. “Once a psychobilly punk anthem from NY underground leaders Gun Club, 20 years later the Swordsmen have twisted it into an electro club banger” (Dazed & Confused) With a new remix from Andy Weatherall this is a fat slice of TLS dancefloor mastery. The album From The Double Gone Chapel is out now.

Gravenhurst’s lo-fi masterpiece Flashlight Seasons is out now and has been getting great reviews.
Mojo described it as “an album of ghostly modern folk beauty”, while NME reckoned it is “as beautiful and stark as anything Drake ever wrote. 9/10”. After playing loads of shows around England and the US, Nick and his band have some summer festival dates lined up, check out the live listings below. Gravenhurst recently completed a session for the BBC collective, listen to it Here

Gravenhurst inhabits an ominous musical forest through which waft the spectres of Wire,Third Eye Foundation, Vangelis and-if you must- Nick Drake. This jaw-dropping debut is an exciting muddle of modified electric guitars molested with bits of metal, bottlenecks and delay pedals; a prehistoric monosynth; squealing, siren-like clarinets, backwards viola and mangled piano. The lyrics are less surreal - the faintly Venus in Furs-like "Tunnels" - with its nostalgic allusions to shut-down cinemas and burnt-out cars, and suggestions of rainy urban Sundays spent dodging skinheads in search of some non-existent Arcadia - is the first of many unexpected 1984-era Smiths moments. Gravenhurst’s words may be bleak but the music is his quest for a place where the streets are paved with gold. (Time Out June, 2004)

Mira Calix

Mira Calix releases 3 Commissions on Sept 6th, a mini album featuring pieces specifically commissioned from her by Geneva's Museum d'Histoire Naturelle, London's Royal Festival Hall and The Barbican.
The record includes the original and the live orchestral versions of Nunu, her work exploring the interplay between human and insect musical worlds, plus a piece originally installed in the Barbican’s conservatory during the gallery’s reopening. There will be a launch party for 3 Commissions at London's Hayward Gallery on 20 August, with Mira Calix performing the 2 versions of Nunu, alongside Andrea Parker, Plaid and Mark Broom Djing on the rooftop. Admission Free (see below)

Warp Vision

On September 27th Warp release our first-ever DVD collection, featuring the cream of all the Warp videos ever from 1989 to the present day that, with the exceptions of Gantz_Graf and Chris Cunningham's promos, have never seen a DVD release until now. The disc includes work from Chris Cunningham, Alex Rutterford and David Slade alongside directors such as Lynn Fox, Pleix, Ed Holdsworth and Laurent Briet who since their work for Warp have become some of the hottest talents in the industry. Nestling amongst the better-known videos are some lost classics and rarely-seen gems from the likes of The Designers Republic (Opto-Scientific from last year's Vasarely Foundation festival) Sabres of Paradise, Jamie Lidell, John Callaghan and Jimi Tenor. Several more extras and sections TBA.

After the awesome Vanilla Monkey 12” on Arcola, Milanese releases a mini album 1 Up on Warp proper on September 6th. Based in Birmingham UK, Milanese's speciality is “fusing elements of electro-acoustic music with mad beats and bass” - the result is a slamming hybrid of jungle, grimy techno, dubstep, and Hecker-Haswell style noise and twisted vocal bursts, cut onto loud double vinyl and CD. Milanese plays live at the Shockout Night on Thursday 29th July, London.

Warp Films
